Tips to Make Presentations Presentable

Making Your Presentation Presentable

Page Set-up
         Use landscape set-up.

Color for projected or monitor display

  • Background:  Use black or the darkest shade of blue or green.
  • Foreground/Text:  Use white, pale gray, or yellow shades.    Hints:  Do not use shades of red.  Yellow is great for highlighting.

Color for Transparencies

  • Background:  Use light colors or no colors.
  • Foreground/Text:  Use black or other dark colors.

Text Style
         Use a sans serif text style.  Suggested fonts are:

  • Arial
  • futura
  • avant garde
  • helvetica
  • Use bolding to emphasize words.
  • Do not use italic type (exception:  scientific names).
  • Avoid using ALL CAPS.

Text Size

  • Use text sizes greater than 36 pt. for titles.
  • Use text sizes greater than 32 pt. for main text.
  • 24 pt. is lowest you should go.

Rule of Seven

  • Use seven words per line.
  • Use seven lines per slide.
  • Avoid crowding text and images.
  • Space lines for legibility.
  • Be consistent.
  • Spell Check.
